About Me

My photo
An 8th grade English teacher for the past 16 years, my interest in photography began in my early teens. An avid Fuji Velvia shooter for years, I finally purchased my first digital camera, a Canon 20D, in January of 2005. I started my photography business on the side in 2004, and it has grown into a second career. I love how my teaching profession and photography business work so seamlessly together. Today, I find myself shooting in excess of 100,000 images a year, including wedding imagery, senior and family portrait work, sports team and action shots, and my true passion, landscape and wildife. I'm actually doing what I always dreamed and I feel totally blessed.

Toby & Heather--7-17-2010

This couple were a lot of fun to photograph.  Their connection was obvious and their friends were there to party.  The evening went quickly and we captured many wonderful images.

Karyn, Libby & Ridge

There was once a time I would have been hesitant to photograph little children.  I wasn't sure I could capture them the way their parents wanted.  I've learned, though, just how much fun it can be to get down on the ground and chase them around a park, golf course or backyard clicking away at great speed in order to capture their wonderful antics.  Libby and Ridge were my most recent subjects, and we had a blast playing in the water and on the playground equipment.  Here's a sampling of their family fun.

I love the reflection in this next image, which is one of my favorites from the shoot.

And now for a few more favorites!

Jessica's Senior Portraits in Tongue River Canyon

I met up with Jessica in Tongue River canyon where we spent two hours shooting many different backgrounds and outfits.  The beauty of the vegetation, rock formations and rushing river along with the great light during the last two hours of the day made for fantastic imagery .  Jessica had a smile that never seemed to wear out and we were able to capture some wonderful images.

Ella, Anna and Joseph!

These three adorable kids made for an exciting session.  I knew right away that posing things simply wouldn't be possible, so I just dropped back, put on a big lens with lots of reach and just watched for opportunities as the kids played.  It turned out to be a lot of fun.

Family Fun

Last fall, I shot the senior portraits of Brad from Gillette, Wyoming.

He and his folks came over for an afternoon and we spent time in the Tongue River Canyon.  His family and immediate friends loved the images so much they scheduled a combination family portrait session.  Four families from Gillette came over on Father's Day no less, and we spent time in Crazy Woman Canyon and near Circle Park in the Bighorn Mountains.  Despite a hail storm that inflicted $5000 in damage to my car and other thunder showers, we had a great adventure and captured some cool images as well.
